HISTORY     Swallow nest soup has long been a famous delicacy among Chinese communities in the     world. China’s escalating economic growth has led to an increasing higher income group     of people, creating a strong demand for swallow nests, consequently maintaining     a strong and up trend in prices in the swallow nests industry.       This has occurred for the simple main reason that swallow habitations are found only in     tropical climates.      Indonesia, the main producer of such swallow nests, covers almost 80% of world      consumption.       We started Swallow farming in 1990. Despite the effort of inviting a Guru in these fields,     our lack of experience, expertise and technique, resulted in unsatisfactory results until     we recently conducted  extensive research and study in swallows’ behaviour.       Swallows are wild birds, which are not farmable like chickens, ducks or pigeons. Now, with     our experience and ingenious building methods, which imitate swallow habitation, we have     been able to successfully attract swallows. These wild birds migrate to our specially built     and equipped buildings, and start nesting within a year or two.     A complete building built in 1990 is still available for showing.       Finding a right location is crucial, and involves our expertise in finding swallows’ flying     routes, which are characteristically flying out every morning and flying back home     through the same route again every evening.       A location with plenty of insects, such as one located near to a forest or plantation is     essential as a  source of food for the swallows. The latest available audio technology     to play loud swallow-like noise in the building is helpful, as well as controlling the     temperature and humidity by using different natural methods, such as water circulation     in and outside the building.       Finally, using our experience we have been able to eliminate any possible failures. These     include selecting proper locations for construction, and locating an opening in the building     for the swallows to enter and exit.  There are also many other techniques used to     achieve success rates as high as 90%.
